The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has urged Lagos residents, consumers, food industry operators, researchers and other stakeholders to participate in the 2026 Lagos State Food Safety Conference and Exhibition scheduled to hold on Tuesday, September 8, at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja.
The agency made the call as preparations for the one-day conference, which is the fourth edition, entered their final stage.
The conference, themed “From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere,” is expected to bring together experts, industry leaders, researchers, regulators and consumers to examine major food safety challenges and develop practical measures for improving food safety standards across Lagos State.
The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, described the conference as an important platform for raising public awareness, strengthening food safety practices and fostering collaboration among regulatory agencies, businesses, researchers and consumers.
Solebo urged Lagos residents to take advantage of the event to improve their knowledge of food safety and consumer rights, stressing that access to safe food remains essential to public health and consumer welfare.
He said the conference was designed not only for professionals within the food sector but also for ordinary consumers, who play an important role in promoting food safety.
According to him, the event will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in discussions on issues affecting the safety and quality of food consumed by residents on a daily basis.
The conference will feature a keynote address by Dr. Adeniyi Adedayo Odugbemi, Global Director of Quality and Food Safety at Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), United States.
Dr. Nurah T. Oseni, a food and cosmetics scientist, researcher and lecturer in the Department of Food Technology at Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, is also expected to speak as a guest speaker.
The panel session will be moderated by Rasaq Oke, a Nigerian food scientist, entrepreneur and industry expert with more than two decades of experience across the food, beverage, agro-allied and food tourism sectors.
The panel will also feature Kikelomo Amoreoluwa, a food scientist, food safety advocate and agro-processing entrepreneur with experience spanning academia, industry, research and non-profit leadership.
Other panellists include Akinyele Ogunji, Principal Research Officer at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), who has more than 15 years of experience in food research, product development and food quality assurance.
Moyosore Onalaja, a technical product innovation, quality and regulatory expert with over 20 years of experience in the fast-moving consumer goods and food industry, will also participate in the panel session.
In addition to the expert discussions, the conference will feature an exhibition of goods, products and services, providing participants with an opportunity to explore innovations and interact with businesses and professionals operating in the food sector.
Solebo reiterated that LASCOPA remains committed to protecting the rights and interests of consumers in Lagos State through public education, advocacy and enforcement of consumer protection standards.
He encouraged residents to contribute ideas and suggestions on food safety and consumer protection through lascopapau@gmail.com, while consumer complaints and grievances can be forwarded to lasgcopa@gmail.com.
The agency also disclosed that members of the public who are unable to attend physically would be able to follow the proceedings through livestreams on the Lagos State Government and/or LASCOPA’s social media platforms.
Solebo urged all stakeholders to use the conference as an avenue to move beyond identifying food safety challenges and focus on developing and implementing practical solutions that would guarantee safe food for residents across Lagos State.
