LASEMA CONTAINS GAS TANKER FIRE AT OLA FARM, ABARANJE ROAD, IKOTUN

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded swiftly today to a fire incident involving a gas-laden tanker at Ola Farm Bus Stop, along Abaranje Road in Ikotun.

On arrival, the LASEMA Response Team met the tanker engulfed in flames. Initial findings indicate that the vehicle was travelling at speed when it struck a road bump. The impact caused the driver to lose control, which led to a tyre burst and an immediate fire outbreak.

Working in close coordination with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the responders moved quickly to suppress the fire, secure the perimeter, and prevent any escalation that could have threatened nearby homes, businesses and road users.

The operation was supported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Federal Road Safety Corps and officers of the Nigeria Police from Ikotun Division, who managed crowd control and traffic diversion to ensure safety and order at the scene.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, said, “We are grateful to report that there was no loss of life and no casualties were recorded. The situation has been brought under control and the fire fully extinguished.

“Efforts are now focused on the safe evacuation of the affected tanker from the roadway. To achieve this, LASEMA has deployed heavy-duty equipment to lift and remove the vehicle so as to restore normal traffic flow in the area. The operation remains ongoing”, he added.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu reminded all motorists of the importance of adhering to speed limits, particularly around designated bumps and in residential corridors. Such caution saves lives and protects property.

The Perm Sec assured that the Agency remains committed to its mandate of disaster preparedness, rapid response and public safety across Lagos State. He also appreciated the professionalism of all responding agencies and the cooperation of residents during the operation.
