NO UTME REQUIRED AS JAMB BEGINS NCE, AGRIC ND REGISTRATION

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced registration for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes and non-technological National Diploma (ND) courses in agriculture without requiring them to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.
According to the Board, eligible candidates with the required O’Level qualifications can register at any Institutional Professional Registration Centre (IPRC) located in Colleges of Education or any JAMB Professional Registration Centre (PRC) across the country.
Benjamin explained that the registration exercise follows the Federal Government’s policy exempting applicants seeking admission into NCE programmes and non-technological agriculture-related ND courses from writing the UTME.
He noted that JAMB has established an admission process to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted while maintaining the quality and integrity of the programmes.
“Under this policy, eligible candidates only need to visit any designated IPRC or JAMB PRC with their O’Level credentials to complete their registration. There is no requirement to sit for the annual UTME,” Benjamin stated.
He encouraged qualified candidates to take advantage of the opportunity by completing their registration at any designated centre nationwide.
JAMB also disclosed that candidates who participated in the 2026 UTME but later decided to pursue NCE or eligible agricultural ND programmes can convert their applications at designated registration centres without paying any additional fee.
According to the Board, the initiative is aimed at increasing access to teacher education and agriculture-related programmes while maintaining academic standards.
The Federal Government had earlier announced the policy in May 2026 during the annual admission policy meeting in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said candidates with at least four O’Level credit passes in relevant subjects would be eligible for admission into Colleges of Education without sitting for the UTME.
He clarified, however, that such candidates must still register with JAMB for screening, credential verification and admission processing through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The minister also extended the exemption to candidates seeking admission into non-technological National Diploma programmes in agriculture and related fields, saying the policy is intended to improve enrolment in those programmes.
However, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has expressed concerns over the policy, warning that inadequate implementation could undermine the quality of teacher education and professionalism in the sector.
