ARMY CLEARS NIGER REPUBLIC RESIDENT OF TERRORISM ALLEGATIONS

The Nigerian Army has exonerated a resident of the Republic of Niger who was previously suspected of having links to terrorist groups, saying investigations found no evidence connecting him to any terrorist organisation.
The clarification was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni.
The statement addressed media reports concerning an individual intercepted by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation following a terrorist attack in Cross Kauwa.
According to the Army, the individual, identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, was initially taken into custody for profiling and investigation due to the prevailing security challenges in the North-East and the frequent use of border routes by terrorist groups for movement and logistics.
However, following comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative procedures, the military said no evidence was found linking him to any known terrorist organisation.
“Comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes did not establish that the individual has any affiliation to any known terrorist group,” the statement said.
The Army further disclosed that investigations confirmed Zein-Nur is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, where he is engaged in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.
Consequently, the military said he has been cleared of all terrorism-related suspicions.
Operation HADIN KAI noted that the outcome demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that innocent civilians are not wrongly profiled or associated with terrorist activities during security operations.
The command reiterated that all individuals intercepted under suspicious circumstances are subjected to due process and thorough security screening to distinguish innocent civilians from genuine terrorist suspects.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining counter-terrorism operations while upholding professionalism, respecting human rights, and adhering to the rule of law.
