LASU INAUGURATES 37TH LASUSU LEADERSHIP, CHARGES STUDENT LEADERS WITH RESPONSIBLE UNIONISM

Lagos State University (LASU) has inaugurated the 37th Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) Executive Council and Students’ Parliamentary Council, with the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, urging the new leadership to promote responsible unionism, protect students’ interests and collaborate with the University Management to maintain peace and stability on campus.
The new administration, led by Comrade Rufai Akanni Obipehin as LASUSU President and Honourable AbdulRahman Temidayo Imam as Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council, took the oath of office alongside other elected executives and parliamentarians during a swearing-in ceremony held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Hall, Main Campus, Ojo.


Congratulating the newly inaugurated officials, Olatunji-Bello urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by the student body by demonstrating maturity, patience and sound judgment in addressing students’ concerns.
She noted that effective student unionism should complement the efforts of the University Management through constructive engagement while serving as a dependable channel of communication between the institution and its students.
The Vice-Chancellor also tasked the new administration with making student welfare a major priority while supporting the University’s efforts to address indecent dressing, cultism and all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.
She stressed the importance of collective responsibility in creating a safe, respectful and conducive learning environment where students can pursue their academic aspirations without fear.


Olatunji-Bello expressed confidence that the new leadership would make a meaningful impact during its tenure, urging the officials to uphold the principles of responsible leadership and place the overall interests of the University above personal considerations.
She also commended the immediate past LASUSU executives and parliamentarians, led by Comrade Adebayo Peter Kayode (APK), for their contributions and successful tenure.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the new administration to build on the achievements of its predecessors and further strengthen the relationship between the students and University Management.

The inauguration ushers in a new phase of student leadership at LASU, with the newly sworn-in executives and parliamentarians assuming responsibility for representing students and contributing to the continued growth and development of the institution.
