Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed several terrorists in a targeted airstrike on a meeting of terrorist leaders in Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted on May 10, 2026, followed what the military described as credible intelligence about a high-level gathering involving notorious terrorist commanders from across the West African sub-region.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, intelligence revealed that the terrorists had assembled at a hidden location in Tumfa Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The military said the meeting took place in a building located on the northern edge of the village and concealed within dense vegetation and thick mango trees near a stream.
It explained that the gathering was intended to coordinate attacks and other criminal operations against communities in the North-West region.
The statement noted that Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with the Air Component, carried out a precision airstrike on the identified hideout after swiftly acting on the intelligence.
A Battle Damage Assessment later confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while others escaped from the area in confusion.
The military further stated that aerial surveillance and intelligence detected suspected terrorist associates attempting to evacuate casualties from the strike location.
According to the statement, troops have continued clearance and follow-up operations in the area to track down fleeing terrorists and strengthen operational gains.
While indicating that more details would be released later, the Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining aggressive operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening peace and security in the North-West.
The command also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to improve the effectiveness of ongoing operations.
