Nollywood actor Charles Born has sparked reactions on social media after celebrating his mother, Stella Born, on Father’s Day while reflecting on his strained relationship with his father.
In a post shared on Instagram on Sunday, the actor wrote, “HAPPY FATHERS DAY DAD @_phinicscreationzandevents. I want to type an epistle; I want to write a long caption, but all I’ll say is THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.”
The post quickly attracted attention online, prompting renewed interest in an earlier interview in which the actor spoke candidly about his upbringing and family experiences.
Speaking on a recent episode of Food Therapy, hosted by Chef Ify, Charles Born recounted what he described as a difficult childhood, alleging that he endured emotional and physical abuse while growing up.
“My childhood isn’t the best in terms of love, care, attention… tell me why for the life of me that the man I call my father would take a picture of his firstborn son and throw it behind the cupboard,” he said.

He also alleged that he was frequently subjected to verbal abuse from his father.
“The man I call my father would say things like, ‘you are useless’ and ‘you can never amount to anything,’” he added.
The actor further recounted instances of physical punishment, which he said had long-term emotional effects on him.
“He used to soak a horsewhip in a custard bucket with pepper inside. He would strip me and flog me while I was shouting, and nobody was listening,” he said.
Charles also disclosed that he once reached a breaking point during one of the incidents.
“I remember looking through the veranda and saying I will jump, and I was going to jump,” he said.
He, however, said he was rescued from the situation by a neighbour who intervened after hearing the commotion.
“My neighbour in the other flat saw what was going on and shouted, ‘what is going on?’. He stepped on the glass door, it broke, and he carried me and took me downstairs,” he said.
Charles Born immediately took to the comment section of the episode teaser post discussing the clip to assure fans of his well-being.
He said he has been undergoing therapy for years and has also forgiven his father.
“You guys ooo!!! Thanks for the love. I promise I’m fine and I’m healing well. been in therapy for years!!!!! I have forgiven him!!! Still trying to forget, but I have forgiven him!” he wrote.
The Father’s day post drew reactions on Instagram, with fans applauding his mother for standing in the gap to make his childhood memorable.

I’m drifting slowly into depression each day but for the grace of God, yet someone out there, living his best life feels entitled to my babies.
