The Christian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of gospel actor Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, popularly known for his role as Flora’s husband in the acclaimed Mount Zion film series, Abattoir.

Oyeyemi’s death was announced by the Bowen University Alumni Association in a statement shared on its Instagram page on Tuesday.

Although the association did not disclose the cause of death, it described the late actor as a respected alumnus and drama minister whose life and ministry impacted many.

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing and burial of one of our esteemed alumni, Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, a proud member of the Viable Set and BBSF Drama Unit, who recently went to be with the Lord,” the statement read.

The association urged members of the alumni community to remember Oyeyemi’s family in their prayers and encouraged those residing in Ibadan and its environs to attend his burial.

According to the burial arrangements released by the family, a Service of Songs will be held in Ibadan on Thursday, July 2, while his interment is scheduled for Friday, July 3, at the Garden of Saints Cemetery. Mourners have been requested to attend in white attire.

Beyond his memorable role in Abattoir, Oyeyemi featured in several productions by Mount Zion Faith Ministries, including Fiwajomi, Seyifunmi, Olukoya and Finding Grace. He was widely known among Christian movie audiences for portraying faith-based characters and using drama as a platform for evangelism.

His death has also renewed attention to a string of losses within the Abattoir cast in recent years.

In February 2025, actress Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe, who played Flora, Oyeyemi’s on-screen wife in the series, died from complications arising from injuries she sustained in a road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in December 2024. The crash also claimed the life of one of her two-year-old twin daughters.

Her death attracted tributes from members of the Christian film community, including Mount Zion Faith Ministries founder, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, and filmmaker Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, who described her passing as a significant loss to the gospel film ministry.

Oyeyemi’s passing also comes after the death of another Abattoir actor, Moses Korede Are, popularly known as Baba Gbenro, in 2024.

With Oyeyemi’s demise, three actors associated with the popular gospel television series have died within the past two years, leaving colleagues, fans and members of the Christian film industry mourning another painful loss.
