NFF NAMES ABDULRAHAMAN NPFL CHIEF AS LEAGUE SEASON BEGINS

The Nigeria Football Federation has named Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman as the new Chief Operating Officer for the Nigeria Premier Football League as the 2026/27 season started on Friday.
The NFF made the announcement on Friday, which was also the day the new NPFL season began with a main match between Shooting Stars and newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan.
The federation said Abdulrahaman’s appointment took immediate effect.
His appointment followed a directive issued by the NFF on Thursday, August 27, for all board members and chief executive officers of the various leagues, as well as chief operating officers who are not members of NFF staff, to vacate their positions.
The directive is part of the federation’s ongoing restructuring of its management and league administration.
The NFF also appointed Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme as its interim General Secretary on Thursday.
Ikpeme confirmed Abdulrahaman’s appointment, explaining that it followed the federation‘s instructions.
Abdulrahaman will now be in charge of running the NPFL as clubs start their new season campaigns.
On the first day of the season, in Ibadan, Shooting Stars played against Inter Lagos, who were newly promoted.
The NPFL started playing matches across the country again.
This new season will have clubs competing for the league title, spots in continental competitions, and trying to stay in the league as the season goes on.
The appointment happened the day after the NFF named Ikpeme as its interim General Secretary, as the federation told some people in management and secretariat to leave their jobs because of a restructuring.
