NO ROOM FOR INCITEFUL COMMENTS- OSUN CP TELLS POLITICIANS

The police chief in charge of elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo, has told politicians not to use violence or make harmful remarks as the governorship election in the state approaches on Saturday.
He called on the Senator who represents the Osun-East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, after he made remarks that were said to be encouraging violence against members of the Accord Party in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on Wednesday, the police commissioner criticized the alleged comment and urged politicians to be careful during this important time.
He said, “At this important time in the election process, political leaders and people in public positions are expected to be calm, support peace, and avoid making remarks that could increase tension or harm public trust in the election and security plans for the upcoming election.”
While the Nigeria Police Force is committed to staying neutral, being professional, and protecting democratic values, CP Etaifo stressed that the Police will not allow any actions, words, or behavior that could lead to violence, disturb public peace, or put the state‘s security at risk.
He added, “Therefore, the Commissioner of Police has asked Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi to clarify his statement and to help build understanding for the sake of peace and security.”
CP Etaifo also said that the invitation should not be seen as a way to pressure him, but as a step to stop tensions from growing and to ensure a peaceful, fair, and honest governorship election in Osun State.
The Police Commissioner further called on all political actors, their supporters, and members of the public to remain law-abiding, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and channel their grievances through lawful means.
