NOLLYWOOD SUFFERS ANOTHER LOSS AS ACTRESS ATINUKE KAREEM DIES AFTER CANCER BATTLE

Barely two weeks after the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, the Yoruba film industry has recorded another loss following the death of actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem after a battle with breast cancer.

Kareem’s death was announced on Tuesday by the Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria through its Executive Governor, Owolabi Ajasa.

The actress had previously appealed publicly for financial assistance to enable her continue treatment for the disease.

In a video released alongside the announcement, Kareem spoke about the financial burden her illness had placed on her family and appealed to Nigerians to support her treatment.

She revealed that she had been battling breast cancer for some time and that her family had spent a significant amount of money on her treatment.

Kareem also disclosed that the association, TAMPAN, had contributed towards her medical expenses but said the assistance was insufficient.

Appealing for further support, the actress said she had two young children and urged Nigerians to contribute whatever they could towards her treatment.

Confirming her death, TAMPAN Ogun State expressed gratitude to individuals who supported Kareem financially, offered prayers and provided encouragement during her illness.

In a statement signed by the association’s Public Relations Officer, Femi Solaja, on behalf of Ajasa, TAMPAN acknowledged the support extended to Kareem and her family.

The association said the contributions and prayers meant a lot to the actress and her family during her difficult period.

TAMPAN, however, said Kareem eventually succumbed to the illness despite efforts to support her treatment.

The association condoled with her family, colleagues and loved ones, while praying for strength for them to cope with the loss.

Kareem’s death comes as the Yoruba movie industry continues to mourn Ogogo, who died recently after reportedly battling stage-four cancer.
