NSCDC UNCOVERS FAKE UNIVERSITY IN LAGOS, RESCUES 107 STUDENTS, ARRESTS SIX SUSPECTS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has uncovered a fake university in the Imeke area of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, rescuing 107 students allegedly deceived into enrolling in unaccredited programmes and a Ponzi scheme.
The command said six suspects were arrested during the operation carried out by its operatives on Monday.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwaseun Abolurin, the illegal institution was allegedly admitting students into unapproved courses, including Nursing.
“On Monday, July 20, 2026, at about 6:00 a.m., NSCDC operatives smashed a fake university located in Imeke village, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, suspected of operating illegal admissions and running unaccredited courses, including Nursing,” the statement read.
According to the command, the six suspects, aged between 24 and 31, were arrested in connection with the illegal institution.
The NSCDC further disclosed that the operators allegedly compelled the unsuspecting students to participate in a Ponzi scheme after securing admission into the institution.
The Lagos State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, directed that the suspects and exhibits recovered during the operation be handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Keshinro also warned prospective students to verify the accreditation status of institutions before accepting admission offers, cautioning that desperation for admission often exposes applicants to fraudsters.
In separate operations, the command arrested 12 additional suspects over alleged offences including illegal migration, human trafficking, Ponzi scheme operations, cross-border crimes and vandalism.
Among those arrested were a Cameroonian, a citizen of the Niger Republic and several Nigerians.
The command also rescued 10 Cameroonian nationals allegedly trafficked into Nigeria and exploited by the suspects.
According to the NSCDC, one Cameroonian suspect was arrested over alleged involvement in a Ponzi scheme and facilitating illegal entry into Nigeria, while another suspect was apprehended in Badagry in connection with human trafficking and illegal migration.
Three foreign nationals, including a Nigerien, were also arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal migration and activities that undermine government policies.
The command said suspects arrested over immigration-related offences would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate action.
The NSCDC also announced the arrest and prosecution of seven suspects for allegedly vandalising public school facilities in Ibereko, Badagry.
Five of the suspects were said to be between the ages of 12 and 16.
They allegedly vandalised school infrastructure, including desks, electrical cables and office facilities.
The command warned that acts of vandalism against public infrastructure, particularly educational facilities, would not be tolerated and vowed to sustain efforts to protect government assets across the state.
