OGUN POLICE CRACK DOWN ON CRIME, ARREST 16 IN STATEWIDE OPERATIONS

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 16 suspects for various offences, including illegal petroleum product dealings, vandalism, burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and defilement, as part of its ongoing Operation Kosaye crackdown on crime.
The command said the arrests were made through intelligence-driven operations, rapid responses to distress calls, forensic investigations and coordinated tactical raids conducted across different parts of the state.
Recovered exhibits include two vehicles, a stolen motorcycle, four drums of suspected Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 13 jerry cans containing suspected diesel, a pumping machine, a generator and several other items linked to the crimes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Abeokuta, describing the operations as evidence of the command’s commitment to tackling crime and safeguarding critical national infrastructure.
According to Babaseyi, detectives from the Agbado Division on July 21 arrested Saliu Akinwande, 50, for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl. The victim was immediately taken for medical treatment, while the suspect was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate operation on the same day, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arrested Kabiru Afolabi, 51, at Abule-Iroko, Sango, following intelligence on the activities of a suspected diesel bunkering syndicate.
Items recovered during the raid included four drums of suspected AGO, 13 jerry cans of suspected diesel, a pumping machine and a generator allegedly used for the illegal operation. Police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The command also announced that detectives attached to the Ota Division arrested Nnabike Uzolo, 26, and Chino Mgbenya, 28, on July 12 for allegedly vandalising telecommunications mast cables at Ten Ten Street, Mine, Ota. Following investigations, both suspects were arraigned in court.
Reaffirming its resolve to protect public infrastructure, the police warned that anyone involved in vandalism would be arrested and prosecuted.
On July 21, detectives from the Idanyin Division also arrested Hammed Olanrewaju and Emmanuel Victor after responding to a burglary report at a commercial premises. Part of the stolen property was recovered from the shop of a suspected receiver, while investigations continue to recover other items and identify additional suspects.
Similarly, detectives from the Ajuwon Division recovered a stolen Bajaj Boxer motorcycle and arrested Mathew Mark, 20, following an investigation into a motorcycle theft reported on July 3. The suspect will be charged after investigations are concluded.
In another case, forensic tracking of a stolen mobile phone from a house-breaking incident reported on July 5 led to the arrest of Sodiq Raji, 32. His arrest further resulted in the apprehension of Zubby Nzube, 28, Adeyemi Omoyajuowo, 30, and Chimezie Iwuanya, 35. Some stolen items were recovered, while efforts continue to arrest fleeing accomplices.

The command also reported that armed hoodlums abandoned a mini truck loaded with aluminium doors and window frames after sighting police operatives along the Benin/Ore Expressway on July 19. The truck was recovered and returned to its owner, while the suspects escaped into a nearby forest.
On July 21, officers attached to the Atan-Ijebu Division recovered an abandoned bus after receiving credible information from members of the public. The vehicle has been secured pending identification of its rightful owner.
Between July 13 and July 21, detectives at the Atan-Ijebu Division also arrested Ayomide Odufuwa, 27, Adura Adebanjo, 26, Samuel Sunday, 25, Bashiru, and Muhammed over separate burglary and house-breaking incidents. Stolen clothing, household items, bedding and other exhibits were recovered during the operations.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, vigilance and dedication.
He reiterated that the command would sustain the momentum of Operation Kosaye through intelligence-led policing, enhanced patrols, stop-and-search operations, forensic investigations and stronger collaboration with residents to deny criminals any safe haven in Ogun State.
The police commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to assist security agencies in preventing crime and ensuring the safety of lives, property and critical national assets.
