OMO-AGEGE DEMANDS JUSTICE OVER DEATH OF DELTA’S DIRECTOR

Former Deputy President of the Senate and NDC Delta Central Senatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has asked for a clear and complete look into the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, who was a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.He said the situation needs to be fully understood.In a statement from September 26, 2026, which he personally signed, Omo-Agege mentioned that Adeda came to his office but did not go back home.
“Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda went to his job at the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and never returned home. He held the position of Deputy Director. His tragic death on Friday, September 25, 2026, which followed a confirmed incident at the Ministry for Secondary Education in Asaba the previous day, has left us feeling both shaken and angry,” the statement said.
The Senator noted that police authorities have confirmed an incident at the ministry and have opened a homicide investigation.
“The police have confirmed that something went wrong that day, and they’ve launched a homicide investigation. Three individuals have been named in connection with the allegations that Adeda was assaulted: Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine, and Lucky Adoh. It’s incredibly difficult to comprehend that such a thing could occur within a government office – a place that is supposed to protect the very people who work there,” he stated.
Omo-Agege cautioned against preempting the outcome of the investigation but stressed the gravity of the allegations.
“We’re not going to jump ahead of the investigation. We still need to establish the exact cause of death, and we owe it to Adeda’s memory to ensure we get it right instead of just getting it done quickly. But let’s be clear about what is at stake: if it turns out he was beaten to death, this isn’t just a tragedy – it’s murder. It’s an attack on every civil servant who comes to work in this state believing they’ll be safe,” the statement read.
He however commended the police for their prompt response, saying, “We should acknowledge that the police acted quickly to confirm the incident and launch a homicide investigation. It’s vital that this investigation remains thorough, swift, and free from any external pressures.”
The statement disclosed that one suspect, Lucky Adoh, is already in custody, while calling for the arrest of the two other persons named in connection with the incident.
“We urge the following actions: The police must find Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine, and anyone responsible should face a full and transparent prosecution — not just a quiet resolution,” Omo-Agege said.
The former Deputy Senate President also called on the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, to step aside pending the outcome of investigations.
“We believe Commissioner Kingsley Ashibogwu should step aside while the investigations are ongoing. The incident occurred in his office, and while he claims he did nothing wrong, stepping aside isn’t an admission of guilt — it’s essential for maintaining trust in the process,” he said.
He further demanded that the findings of the Administrative Panel set up over the incident and the police investigation be made public.
“The findings from the Administrative Panel need to be made public, along with the results of the police investigation. We can’t let this be swept under the rug once the media attention fades,” he said.
Omo-Agege declared that the case must not be abandoned, stating: “No one should have to worry about making it home safely after a day at work. This issue isn’t going away, and we won’t allow it to be buried.”
He extended condolences to the family of the deceased, adding, “To the Adeda family: we share in your grief, and we will keep fighting until the truth is revealed and justice is served.”
