OSUN APC DISMISSES ACCORD’S CLAIM OF VIOLENT MOTOR PARK TAKEOVER

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed allegations by the state chapter of the Accord that it was working with the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, leader, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, to forcibly take over motor parks across the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC described the allegation as false, fabricated and ill-conceived.

The party was reacting to a statement by Accord’s Osun State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, who on Sunday accused the APC and MC Oluomo of allegedly planning a violent takeover of motor parks across the state.

Akande had alleged that MC Oluomo was acting through Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, alongside some members of the Osun APC, to gain control of the motor parks.

Responding, the APC said Accord was “chasing shadows” over the leadership crisis within the NURTW and denied any involvement in the administration or activities of the transport union.

The party stated, “We, as a political party, have no business in the running of the NURTW in the state as such is not captured in any of the provisions of the Constitution of our party.”

The APC urged members of the public and the police to disregard the allegation, describing it as “frivolous, reckless, diversionary and without any proof.”

It further argued that any attempt by the Osun State Government to directly interfere in NURTW affairs would amount to undue interference, citing provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

The party said, “How many times do we need to spoon-feed the Accord handlers and the state government with the sufficient and elaborate position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended?”

The APC also alleged that the state government and Accord leaders should be held responsible if any group attempted to disrupt peace in the state.

It urged the government to focus on governance following the recently concluded governorship election instead of making what it described as unsubstantiated allegations.

“We thought that after the last governorship election, the incumbent state government would deem it necessary to face governance squarely instead of chasing shadows and making it an habit to misinform the innocent members of the public,” the statement said.

The party added that it was currently focused on political activities ahead of the January 2027 presidential election, arguing that this further made Accord’s allegation of a planned disruption baseless.

On the NURTW leadership, the APC said MC Oluomo had inaugurated a six-month caretaker committee headed by Asiri Eniba to oversee the affairs of the union.

The party also rejected calls for the police to take over motor parks, maintaining that the establishment, control and regulation of motor parks fall under local government councils.

It cited Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution in support of its position, arguing that local government councils are responsible for matters relating to public motor parks and revenue collection.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the Osun NURTW, with recent violence reportedly linked to competing claims over control of motor parks. The crisis also followed the killing of Olamilekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The APC had previously criticised the state government’s proposed Park Management System.
