The Osun State Government has warned members of the public against a fraudulent website being circulated as the official “Osun State Sports Trust Fund.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the government clarified that the website, osunsportstrustfund.com, was neither owned nor authorised by the state government and had no official connection with its activities.
The government urged residents and members of the public to disregard any information published on the platform and avoid responding to fundraising appeals, payment requests or other transactions originating from the website.
“The Osun State Government wishes to alert members of the public that the website https://osunsportstrustfund.com circulating as the ‘Osun State Sports Trust Fund’ is fraudulent and is not owned, authorised or operated by the Osun State Government,” the statement said.
It added, “Members of the public are therefore advised to disregard any information, requests, fundraising appeals or transactions emanating from the said platform.”
The warning comes amid the state government’s earlier plans to establish a Sports Trust Fund as part of efforts to develop a sustainable financing structure for sports in Osun State.
In February 2025, Governor Ademola Adeleke disclosed that his administration was finalising the legal framework for the establishment of a Sports Commission and a Sports Trust Fund.
The governor said the initiative was aimed at providing sustainable funding for sports development, improving sporting infrastructure and supporting athletes across the state.
The announcement was made during the rehabilitation of the Osogbo City Stadium, which the government described as part of broader efforts to reposition the state’s sports sector.
The government’s latest clarification is intended to prevent members of the public from mistaking the unauthorised website for an official government initiative, particularly given the state’s previously announced plans for a Sports Trust Fund.
It advised the public to verify any information concerning the proposed fund through recognised and official Osun State Government channels before taking any action.
The government also urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid making payments, submitting personal information or responding to fundraising requests through the disputed platform.
