OSUN POLICE DEBUNK CLAIM OF FOUR ACCORD MEMBERS KILLED IN ILESA

The Osun State Police Command has debunked claims that four members of the Accord Party were killed in Ilesa on Thursday, describing the incident as a continuation of cult-related killings.
The claim was made by the spokesperson of the Imole Campaign Council, TICC, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who alleged in a statement posted on Facebook that four Accord Party members were killed in Ilesa because of their political support for Governor Ademola Adeleke.
However, the statement did not identify the location of the alleged killings, name the purported victims or provide photographs of the deceased.
Reacting to the claim, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that a killing occurred in Ilesa but said it was cult-related and involved only one victim.
Ojelabi identified the deceased as Olakunle Owoeye and said the command was not aware of any incident involving the killing of four Accord Party members.
“Yes, there was an incident in Ilesa and it is cult-related where one person, identified as Olakunle Owoeye, was killed. We are not aware of any incident where four Accord Party members were killed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Ijesa-South Campaign Council, Dosu Babatunde, appealed to residents to remain peaceful and assured them of adequate security before, during and after Saturday’s governorship election.
Babatunde urged residents to come out and exercise their civic responsibility, while commending President Bola Tinubu and security agencies for measures taken to safeguard the people of Ilesa.
Also speaking, Jola Akintola said residents had resolved to give peace a chance and ensure that the election was conducted peacefully.
The development comes as security agencies intensify preparations across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with authorities urging residents to disregard unverified reports capable of heightening tension.
