OSUN POLL: EX-MINISTER ADESIYAN LAMENTS SLOW BVAS, SAYS ELDERLY VOTERS AFFECTED

Former Minister of State for Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan, has expressed concern over the slow performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Bimodal Voter Accreditation System during Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

Adesiyan, who voted at Unit 8, Ward 6, Lagere Idiose, Ode Omu, said the slow accreditation process could delay voting for the large number of registered voters at the polling unit.

According to him, nearly 1,000 voters were registered at the unit, with most of them still waiting in the queue as of past 2pm.

“The exercise is peaceful here. There have not been any problems, only that the BVAS is very slow,” he said.

He added that fewer than 200 voters had reportedly cast their ballots at the time, while some elderly voters were experiencing difficulties with biometric accreditation.

“There are some of our elderly people who are here. The BVAS is not capturing some of them,” Adesiyan said.

The former minister called for the provision of an additional BVAS machine to speed up the accreditation process and reduce the waiting time for voters.

He, however, expressed confidence that all registered voters already on the queue would be allowed to cast their ballots.
