LASEMA CONTAINS IKEJA HOTEL FIRE, NO CASUALTY RECORDED

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has contained a fire outbreak at Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, along Awolowo Road, Ikeja, with no casualty recorded.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the incident was reported at about 9:52 a.m.

According to him, the fire affected a room on the first floor of the hotel, with preliminary findings suggesting that it may have been caused by an electrical fault.

He said LASEMA’s Tiger Squad, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police, arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the distress call.

“Upon arrival, responders discovered that a room on the first floor of the hotel had been severely affected by fire,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

He added that all guests and hotel staff were safely evacuated to a designated muster point, while a roll call was conducted to account for all occupants.

“There was no loss of life and no injury recorded,” he said.

The fire was subsequently brought under control and completely extinguished through the joint efforts of the emergency responders.

Oke-Osanyintolu said access to the entire building had been restricted as a precaution due to the extent of the fire and smoke damage.

He added that the affected section remained cordoned off pending a detailed structural and electrical assessment by the relevant authorities.

“The situation is now fully under control. The fire has been extinguished and the immediate danger neutralised,” he said, noting that normal operations at the hotel would only resume after clearance from safety officials.

The LASEMA boss commended the emergency responders for their swift and coordinated response, saying it helped prevent the fire from spreading and protected lives and property.

He urged hotel operators, facility managers and business owners to conduct regular electrical maintenance, service fire suppression equipment and train staff on emergency evacuation procedures.

He also advised members of the public to promptly report emergencies through the Lagos State emergency lines 112, 767 or 08000 112 112.
