OWO MONARCH ABDUCTED AS GUNMEN INVADE ONDO COMMUNITY

Suspected kidnappers have abducted the traditional ruler of Ode Oriya community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr Adeniyi Adelana, during a late-night attack on the community.

According to sources, the gunmen invaded the village around 8 p.m. on Saturday and stormed the residence of the 60-year-old monarch, taking him away through a nearby bush path to an unknown location.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Ondo State Police Command said it had launched a coordinated rescue operation to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that preliminary findings showed that about six armed men carried out the attack under the cover of darkness before fleeing into the forest with the community leader.

He explained that security operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Owo, were immediately deployed to the scene, where the area was secured and initial investigations commenced.

Jimoh disclosed that the monarch’s wife sustained a gunshot injury to her right hand during the attack. She was rescued and taken to a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment and responding positively.

The police spokesman added that a comprehensive search-and-rescue operation is ongoing, with security personnel combing forests, bush paths, and suspected escape routes in a bid to locate the abductors and ensure the safe return of the victim.

He further noted that tactical deployments had been reinforced across the affected area and neighbouring communities to strengthen security and support the rescue mission.

According to Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Felix Ohagwu, has directed all tactical and intelligence units of the command to intensify efforts toward the monarch’s rescue and the arrest of the suspects.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe return of the traditional ruler and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
