The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspected cultists, including an alleged leader of the proscribed Eiye Confraternity, during a raid on criminal hideouts in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of the state.

According to the command, the suspects were arrested in a targeted operation carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, following intelligence reports on cult-related and violent criminal activities in the area.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the operation was carried out on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to tackle cultism and other criminal offences across the state.

She said the command recorded another breakthrough in its campaign against cult-related violence, noting that four members of a suspected criminal group were apprehended during the coordinated raid.

One of the suspects was identified as Idowu Akorede, a resident of Ijagbo, alleged to be the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in the area.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives stormed identified criminal hideouts on June 11, 2026, where Akorede was arrested, while three others were picked up in subsequent operations.

Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspects to a criminal gang involved in cultism, robbery, and other violent crimes in the community. The group was also accused of attacking residents and dispossessing them of their valuables, causing fear and insecurity in the area.

The police further stated that the suspects resisted arrest and attacked operatives with broken bottles in an attempt to escape, but were subdued without injury due to the officers’ tactical response and restraint.

The suspects have since been transferred to Ilorin and are in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the network.

Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and courage, reaffirming the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.

He assured residents that the police remain determined to rid the state of criminal elements and urged continued cooperation through the provision of timely and credible information.
