The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and enhance security across the state.

According to a statement, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the Oyo/Ogbomoso axis intercepted a gold-coloured Nissan Maxima with registration number FKJ 666 KA during a routine patrol on June 15, 2026, at about 10:48 a.m.

Two male suspects, identified as Ibrahim Mohammed Dabban and Ndako Sulaimon, both residents of Sabo Area in Sagamu, Ogun State, were arrested and taken into custody for further investigation.

A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of a live cartridge, a cutlass, tw jackknives, a handcuff, assorted fetish items, suspected Indian hemp, dried leaves, and a Soul-Safe uniform, raising suspicion about the occupants’ activities.

Following preliminary findings, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that the case be transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly made confessional statements linking them to armed robbery and other violent crimes. One of the suspects also reportedly admitted to illegal possession of a pump-action rifle allegedly obtained from an individual in Iperu, Ogun State.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives extended their investigation to Ogun State, where two pump-action rifles, three live cartridges, and one expended cartridge were recovered from locations connected to the suspects and an alleged supplier.

The alleged supplier is currently at large, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the illegal possession and circulation of firearms.

The Command assured that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects involved will be brought to justice, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
