Chelsea and England forward Cole Palmer will miss two Premier League games and the Champions League clash with Barcelona next week after fracturing a toe, coach Enzo Maresca said on Friday.
Maresca said that 23-year-old Palmer, who had just returned to training after two months out with a groin injury, had suffered the injury at home.
He apparently stubbed his toe on a door at night.
Palmer will miss the trip to Burnley on Saturday, the home fixture against Barcelona on Tuesday, and the Premier League game against leaders Arsenal the following weekend. Maresca stated, “He is probably not available for tomorrow, Barcelona for sure, or Arsenal for sure.”
“Unfortunately, he struck his toe in an accident at home. It is nothing serious, but he will not be back for a week.” Palmer, who scored twice when Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final in July, is anticipated to play a significant role for England at the World Cup the following year.
