POLICE ARREST SUSPECT, RECOVER SEVEN BUNDLES OF FAKE N200 NOTES IN ABIA

The Abia State Police Command has raided a suspected counterfeit currency production hideout in Obikabia community, Aba, arresting a 40-year-old man and recovering seven bundles of fake N200 notes.

The suspect, identified as John Paul, was arrested during an operation carried out by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following actionable intelligence.

The development was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, in a press statement issued on Friday.

According to Chinaka, the operatives raided the hideout after receiving intelligence that some individuals were allegedly involved in the production of counterfeit Nigerian currency.

She stated that the suspect was apprehended during the operation, while seven bundles of counterfeit N200 notes were recovered as exhibits.

“Leveraging actionable intelligence, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Abia State Police Command raided a hideout within Obikabia community in Aba, where some criminal elements were engaged in the production of counterfeit Nigerian currency.

“During the operation, the above-mentioned suspect was apprehended, while seven bundles of counterfeit N200 notes were recovered as exhibits,” she said.

The police spokesperson added that investigations had commenced, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the alleged counterfeit currency syndicate who fled the scene.

The command also reaffirmed the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
