Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber, Sunday Nimel, in Asaba and recovered three firearms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, Nimel was arrested on October 7, 2026, by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working in collaboration with local vigilantes.

The police said the suspect was allegedly a member of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its surrounding communities.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly provided information that led the operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.

The statement added that investigations into the incident were ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the successful operation.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the dismantling of criminal networks across the state.

The commissioner also urged residents to continue providing the police with credible information, assuring them of the command’s determination to protect lives and property.
