POLICE ARREST THREE, INTERCEPT SUSPECTED INDIAN HEMP CONSIGNMENT IN OSUN

Operatives of the Osun State Police Command have arrested three suspects and intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting substances suspected to be Indian hemp along the Moro-Ife Road in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement made available in Osogbo on Friday.
According to Ojelabi, the suspected illicit substance was allegedly being transported to Ogbomoso in Oyo State when the vehicle conveying it developed a fault and was abandoned along the Ife Road in Moro.
He said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit, Team E, who encountered the faulty vehicle during a routine patrol of the Moro-Ife Road on August 30, 2026.

The police spokesman said the officers became suspicious after noticing the abandoned silver-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Bus and subsequently conducted a search.
He explained that 38-year-old Awo Omotayo, who identified himself as the driver of the vehicle, later arrived at the scene with a red Nissan Cabstar allegedly to tow the faulty vehicle.
The towing vehicle was reportedly driven by 22-year-old Abayomi Suleiman, accompanied by another suspect identified as Oluwatayo Samuel.
Ojelabi said a search of the Sienna revealed several bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, leading to the immediate arrest of the three men.
The police recovered the suspected illicit substance, the two vehicles and the towing vehicle, and took them to the command headquarters for further investigation.
During interrogation, Omotayo allegedly told investigators that a man identified as Baba Ibo, who operates around Garage Olode in Osun State, contracted him to transport the substance to Ogbomoso.
The suspect reportedly said Baba Ibo had the contact details of the person expected to receive the consignment in Ogbomoso.
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case to establish the source of the suspected illicit substance and identify its intended recipient.
The command said efforts were also underway to arrest Baba Ibo and other individuals suspected to be connected with the alleged trafficking operation.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist in tracking down fleeing suspects and curbing the trafficking of prohibited substances across the state.
