POLICE BEGIN DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST INSPECTOR OVER VIRAL POLITICAL REMARKS

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against an inspector following the circulation of a viral video showing him making controversial remarks while travelling in a public vehicle.

The officer, identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, was accused by the Command of making “careless, inappropriate and uncultured remarks,” according to a statement issued on Friday, September 25, 2026, by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

In the video, Frank, who was wearing his police uniform, was heard making comments about Igbo people and discussing the political ambitions of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi. He also spoke about President Bola Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

The inspector was further heard suggesting that police officers could accept money to undermine the chances of a political candidate.

Reacting to the video, the Lagos Police Command said Frank’s comments were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the official position or views of the Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command said it had commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, stressed that police personnel are expected to demonstrate professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.

Fatai said wearing the police uniform carries the responsibility of protecting the dignity and integrity of the Force, adding that the Command would not tolerate conduct capable of damaging the reputation of the police or undermining public confidence.

The Command also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.

The video, which began circulating widely on social media around September 23, attracted criticism over the inspector’s comments, particularly his remarks about Igbo people and his suggestion that officers could collect money to frustrate a political candidate.

The police have not disclosed the specific disciplinary measures being considered against Frank.
