POLICE INTERCEPT VEHICLE WITH SUSPECTED DRUGS, MILITARY GEAR IN DELTA

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have intercepted a vehicle conveying military accoutrements and cartons of suspected illicit drugs.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Saturday.
Edafe said the operation was carried out on Friday, September 18, 2026, following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cult Unit, Asaba.
According to him, the operatives were informed that a Toyota Sienna conveying suspected illicit drugs and military accoutrements was travelling from Onitsha towards Ondo State.

He said the officers mounted surveillance along the suspected route and intercepted the vehicle at about 4:50am.
The vehicle, a green Toyota Sienna with registration number KP 527 AAA, was driven by a 45-year-old man identified as Isaac Urji from Abia State.
A search of the vehicle, according to the police, led to the recovery of cartons of suspected Tramadol and other illicit drugs, as well as military camouflage uniforms, boots and hats.
The suspect was immediately arrested, while investigation has commenced to establish the source and destination of the items and identify other individuals connected to the consignment.
In a separate operation, the command said it arrested suspected cultists during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected kidnappers and cultists in Ika South and Aniocha North Local Government Areas.
On September 18, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Sector III, Ubulu-Uku, carried out a covert operation at Alisheme Community in Ika South Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of 18-year-old Destiny Okafor and 22-year-old Sunday Bryan.
The police said the suspects were allegedly involved in cultism and kidnapping-related activities and admitted during preliminary investigation to being members of the NBM Confraternity.
Items recovered from them included a locally fabricated single-barrelled gun, a battle axe, two cutlasses, mobile phones and a laptop.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigation continues.
Similarly, on September 15, the Divisional Police Officer of Issele-Uku Division led a combined team of police Anti-Cult personnel, vigilantes, hunters and Forest Security operatives in a cordon-and-search operation following intelligence on suspected cult activities around Ogboli Quarter and other parts of Issele-Uku.
The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspected cultists and the recovery of two locally made pistols, one pump-action gun and six live cartridges.
The police said investigation into the cases is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Erale, reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state.
He urged residents to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring them that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
