POLICE RAID ANAMBRA CRIMINAL HIDEOUTS, ARREST 65-YEAR-OLD SUSPECTED SECESSIONIST, SIX OTHERS

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities across the state, arresting seven suspects, including a 65-year-old man allegedly linked to a secessionist group, and recovering arms-related items and suspected illicit drugs.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the operations were conducted by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit on Thursday in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
According to Ikenga, the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, raided suspected criminal hideouts and black spots in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area, and Umudioka, Dunukofia LGA.

In Umudioka, the police arrested 65-year-old Ifeanyi Ogbuagbo, whose residence was searched and an Army uniform and expended ammunition shells concealed in a black polythene bag were recovered.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that Ogbuagbo was allegedly linked to a criminal group agitating for self-government. He remains in custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered items and his alleged activities.
In a separate operation at a suspected criminal hideout in Ekwulobia, six other suspects were arrested. They were identified as Chisom Okafor, 25; Onyedika Moses, 36; Iruka Nwaonu, 30; Joseph Nwankwo, 36; Chukwujekwu Nwoso, 32; and Akanimo Orok, 40.
The police said operatives recovered a sizeable quantity of dried weeds suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, alongside other substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the command would sustain intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols and coordinated raids aimed at dismantling criminal networks and disrupting illicit drug activities across the state.
Ama also directed operatives to intensify raids on criminal hideouts, drug-selling points and other locations identified as centres of criminal activity.
