The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued a newborn baby boy abandoned in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The infant was rescued on Monday, November 2, 2026, and rushed to a hospital for medical attention after being discovered in critical condition, according to the police.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a video shared on Facebook on Tuesday, appealing to members of the public to provide information that could help identify the baby’s mother.
Adeh said the newborn sustained bruises on his hand and one of his arms, adding that the police were working to ensure he received adequate medical care.
“We picked this baby in a very bad condition. This baby is a baby boy. The baby boy was abandoned, wrapped in a nylon bag, and he was badly injured,” she said.
The police spokesperson explained that the child had been taken to hospital and would later be transferred to the care of social welfare officials.

She urged residents of Bwari with relevant information about the baby’s mother to report to the nearest police station or contact the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer on 08036259662.
Adeh also called on residents to report any woman who had recently been pregnant but was no longer seen with a newborn.
Appealing to women facing unwanted pregnancies, she advised them to seek assistance from social welfare offices or the nearest police station instead of abandoning their babies.
“If you don’t want the baby, you can walk into the social welfare office or any nearest police station and we will assist you. Instead of abandoning these children, come to us and we will help you,” she said.
Adeh noted that there were individuals willing to care for children and urged mothers experiencing difficult circumstances to seek support rather than put their newborns at risk.
In September, the FCT Police Command rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents in the Kurudu and Gwagwalada areas of Abuja.
Adeh said the first incident occurred at about 5:30pm around Obodo Street, Kurudu, after a resident identified as Innocent heard a baby crying and discovered a boy wrapped in cloth inside a carton.
In a similar incident later that day, a baby girl was rescued in Gwagwalada after a resident, identified as Ibrahim, heard her crying outside his gate at about 9:40pm.
