PSG CROWNED SUPER CUP CHAMPIONS AGAIN AFTER VILLA VICTORY

Paris Saint-Germain have retained the UEFA Super Cup after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in a closely contested final in Salzburg.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave the Champions League holders the lead in the 20th minute with a superb finish before Aston Villa teenager Brian Madjo equalised shortly before half-time.
Madjo, 17, marked his competitive debut with a historic goal, becoming the youngest player to score in the Super Cup after volleying John McGinn’s cross into the net.
PSG restored their advantage in the 62nd minute when Désiré Doué found the winner following a VAR review for a possible offside.

Villa pushed for another equaliser and created several opportunities, forcing PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov into a number of important saves, but Luis Enrique’s side held on to secure back-to-back Super Cup titles.
The victory sees PSG retain the trophy they won for the first time last year after defeating Tottenham on penalties.
For Villa manager Unai Emery, the defeat extended his unwanted record to four losses in four Super Cup finals, having previously fallen short with Sevilla and Villarreal.
The match also made history as Somali referee Omar Artan became the first non-European official to referee the UEFA Super Cup.
For Villa, the performance offered encouragement ahead of their Premier League campaign despite the defeat, with several key players absent. The club are expected to strengthen their squad further before the transfer window closes.
