RMD URGES NIGERIANS TO STOP CONDEMNING COUNTRY, CALLS FOR SOLUTIONS

Veteran actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has urged Nigerians to stop merely criticising the country and instead contribute solutions to its challenges.
RMD made the call on Tuesday at the maiden edition of the Pivot Nigeria thought-leadership conference, themed “The Reputation Dividend: Who Pays for Nigeria’s Perception?”
The actor said Nigerians should recognise that their individual conduct contributes to how the country is perceived internationally, while also demanding accountability from those in leadership.
He said citizens should not limit themselves to criticism but should also take responsibility for contributing to solutions to the country’s challenges.
RMD also urged Nigerians to remember their responsibility as representatives of the country wherever they find themselves.
According to him, Nigerians should see themselves as ambassadors of the country, beyond representing only themselves, their families or their institutions.
The veteran actor pointed to the international achievements of Nollywood, Afrobeats and Nigerian entrepreneurs such as Aliko Dangote as examples of Nigerians contributing to the country’s reputation and global image.
He, however, cautioned that transforming Nigeria would take time, describing the country as a work in progress and urging citizens to remain committed to contributing positively.
Also speaking at the conference, the convener and Lead Consultant at HighStakes PR Professionals, Victoria Uwadoka, described reputation as an important national asset.
Uwadoka said the media, individuals, institutions, corporate organisations and government all have roles to play in shaping Nigeria’s reputation.
She called for balanced reporting of the country, noting that Nigeria’s challenges should be acknowledged while its positive achievements should also be highlighted.
She further said the government must create an enabling environment through sound policies, infrastructure and strong institutions.
The 2026 Pivot Nigeria conference was held at the MUSON Centre in Lagos and brought together stakeholders from the creative, media and communications sectors to discuss how Nigeria’s reputation affects citizens, businesses and national opportunities.
