SANWO-OLU’S CHIEF OF STAFF VISITS OGOGO’S FAMILY, PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE ACTOR’S LEGACY

The Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Tayo Ayinde, has led a delegation of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Lagos State, to pay a condolence visit to the family of late veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Ayinde, who also serves as the Lagos State Ambassador of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, described the late actor as a cultural icon whose decades-long career contributed significantly to the promotion of Yoruba language, identity and values through film and theatre.
The visit, which took place on Saturday, was aimed at commiserating with Ogogo’s widow, children and other members of the Hassan family following his death.
Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer. He was buried the following day in Ilaro in accordance with Islamic rites.
Speaking during the condolence visit, Ayinde said Ogogo’s contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry extended beyond acting, noting that his career helped preserve and project Yoruba culture to wider audiences.
He said the late actor’s performances and dedication earned him a place among prominent figures who contributed to the growth of indigenous-language cinema in Nigeria.
Ayinde expressed sympathy with the Hassan family, acknowledging the difficulty of losing a loved one and assuring them of the thoughts and prayers of the delegation.
He prayed for the repose of Ogogo’s soul and asked God to grant his widow, children and other family members the strength and comfort to cope with the loss.
The Chief of Staff noted that Ogogo’s influence would continue to be felt in Nigeria’s entertainment and cultural sectors, particularly through his contributions to Yoruba-language productions.
According to him, the actor’s body of work formed part of Nigeria’s cultural history and would continue to inspire future generations while keeping his memory alive.
Ayinde urged the family to draw comfort from the remarkable impact Ogogo made throughout his lifetime, stressing that his legacy would endure through the lives he touched and the works he left behind.
The delegation included the Chief of Staff of RHA Lagos, Dr Shopeyin; Director of Protocol, Hon. Jibike Babatunde; Director of Security, Hon. Olalekan Abubakar; Hon. Bayo Ajisebutu and other members of the organisation.
Ogogo’s death has continued to attract tributes from colleagues, fans and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry, who have celebrated his decades-long contribution to Nollywood and the preservation of Yoruba culture.
