Saudi Arabia’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup came to an end on Friday after a goalless draw with Cape Verde in their final Group H match failed to secure a place in the knockout stage.

The Green Falcons finished bottom of the group with just two points from three matches, extending their long wait for a return to the World Cup’s knockout rounds.

Saudi Arabia ended the group phase without a victory, recording draws against Cape Verde and Uruguay, while suffering a defeat to Spain.

The result means the Saudis have now been eliminated in the group stage at six consecutive World Cup tournaments since reaching the Round of 16 at the 1994 edition in the United States.

Despite their efforts against Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia were unable to find the breakthrough needed to keep their qualification hopes alive, bringing their 2026 World Cup journey to a disappointing conclusion.

The elimination continues a difficult run for the Gulf nation on football’s biggest stage, with the team still searching for its first appearance in the knockout rounds in more than three decades.
