The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sodiq Abubakar Gombe, has announced that the party secured a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja on Wednesday directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Adebayo Ajala as its sole candidate for the August 8, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
Speaking during a press briefing at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, Gombe described the court ruling as a major victory for the SDP leadership.
He disclosed that the party was awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment, which would be forwarded to INEC for necessary action.
According to him, the internal challenges and distractions facing the party have now been resolved.

Gombe urged INEC to comply with the court’s decision by officially recognising Ajala as the SDP’s candidate for the forthcoming governorship poll.
“The SDP secured victory at the Federal High Court today, which affirmed our governorship candidate as the duly elected flag bearer of the party through a primary election conducted by the SDP and monitored by INEC.
“Even the issue some individuals sought to pursue through other means has now been conclusively settled by the court’s judgment,” he said.
The development comes after another Federal High Court ruling delivered on June 24, 2026, recognised Salawu-Adeniyi Mustapha Olaitan, who was backed by embattled former SDP National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, as the party’s governorship candidate.
Meanwhile, a court recently adjourned until next month the alleged misappropriation case instituted against Gabam by the SDP leadership.
