Troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, have uncovered an alleged arms cache linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Enugu State.

The operation, carried out on June 9, 2026, formed part of the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II aimed at strengthening peace and security efforts across the South-East region.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the operation followed actionable intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects allegedly affiliated with IPOB and ESN.

Acting on the intelligence, security operatives conducted a targeted follow-up raid in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where they reportedly uncovered a concealed arms storage facility hidden inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.

A search of the location led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and ammunition, including General Purpose Machine Guns, an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas launcher with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

The military stated that all recovered items, alongside arrested suspects, have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The statement described the operation as a reflection of effective inter-agency collaboration and a proactive approach to countering threats to public safety and national security.

Operation UDO KA also reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations against criminal and terrorist elements in the region and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support security efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in the South-East.
