There was panic on Saturday at Ijebu-Jesa, the headquarters of Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, after a podium collapsed during the inauguration of vote canvassers for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign.

The event, which commenced around noon, had Governor Ademola Adeleke, his elder sister Modupe Adeleke-Sanni, and several party stakeholders and dignitaries in attendance. The programme was organised by Mr. Pelumi Olajengbesi.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred midway into the event when Governor Adeleke was invited to acknowledge supporters present at the venue. As the governor stood up to greet the crowd, other dignitaries reportedly moved closer to him on the platform.

The additional weight on the already crowded podium caused the structure to give way, resulting in its sudden collapse.

The incident triggered brief confusion and concern among attendees, particularly over the safety of the governor and other personalities on the stage.

However, no fatalities were recorded.

Some members and officials of the Accord Party reportedly sustained minor injuries during the incident and received attention at the venue.

Following the collapse, organisers brought the programme to an early end.
