R&B singer Trey Songz has been arrested in New York following an alleged assault involving a nightclub employee in Manhattan’s Times Square area.

The 41-year-old artist, whose real name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson, was taken into custody after an early-morning incident at Dramma Night Club on December 4. Prosecutors told a Manhattan criminal court that the singer became “needlessly irate” after a staff member informed him the venue was closing around 4:25 a.m. During the confrontation, Neverson is accused of punching the worker in the face.

According to court documents, the second incident reportedly involved damage to about $1,500 in property, like hookahs, DJ gear, and furniture.

The singer was allowed to go free without bail and showed up in court wearing a black mask.
The prosecutors asked for, and the court gave, a protection order for the nightclub worker. Officials mentioned that Neverson often visits the club.

His lawyer, Mitchell Schuster, disagreed with the prosecution‘s story, saying the situation turned bad after his client was upset.
“The incident started when Trey was confronted by people who started a fight and tried to surround him,” Schuster said in a statement.

He explained that Neverson’s security team tried to calm things down.
“His security stepped in to protect him and stop the problem, and a fight happened because of the confusion,” Schuster said.Even though he was the one being targeted at first, Trey was still arrested.”

Schuster also thought his client was unfairly picked on because of his fame.
Public people are often seen as targets for trouble to get attention or money,” he said, adding that the singer is “fully working with authorities on both cases” and is sure that “all the facts will be clear soon.”

The judge let Neverson go under supervision, saying his past legal issues were a problem, and told him to come back to court on February 18.
