SUSPECTED HOODLUMS BREAK INTO OSUN INEC OFFICE, STEAL PVCS

Suspected hoodlums on Sunday disrupted the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ward collation centre in Okuku, Osun State, making away with several packs of the cards.
The incident occurred at Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, where INEC officials were issuing PVCs to registered voters.
A resident, identified simply as Gbadebo, said the assailants entered the premises unnoticed before opening fire into the air, causing panic among those present.
According to him, the attackers headed straight for the area where INEC officials had kept the PVCs, seized several packs, and fled.
“Some of us were waiting to collect our PVCs when they suddenly appeared. They fired shots into the air, everyone ran for safety, and they went directly to where the PVCs were kept before escaping with some packs,” he said, adding that about eight hoodlums were involved.
Confirming the attack, the Osun State Police Command said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had condemned the incident and ordered a full-scale investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said tactical and intelligence teams had been deployed to track down the suspects and recover the stolen PVCs.
He disclosed that about 10 armed thugs attacked INEC officials who were peacefully distributing PVCs, fired sporadically into the air, and fled with three packs of the voter cards.
Ojelabi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
He also appealed to members of the public and eyewitnesses with useful information to report to the nearest police station or contact the command through its emergency lines to aid the ongoing investigation.
