Three people have been killed, two others injured and 114 cattle stolen in separate attacks across Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Mangu Local Government Areas of Plateau State within the past few days.

The incidents also involved the killing of two cattle and the destruction of crops and farmlands, according to separate statements issued by the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) and the Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM), which were made available to journalists in Jos on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the BYM disclosed that 114 cattle were rustled in Wereng community, Riyom LGA, between October 6 and 12, 2026. The incident also claimed the life of a 42-year-old man, David Danjuma.

The association attributed the attack to gunmen suspected to be terrorists, who allegedly stole the cattle and killed Danjuma.

It also reported the killing of 48-year-old James Joro Dung in Tafan, Barkin Ladi LGA, on October 13, adding that two of his cattle were killed during the incident.

The BYM expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and called for a thorough investigation into the killings and the recovery of the stolen cattle.

It further urged security agencies to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities, increase surveillance along routes where attacks had been reported and provide adequate security for farmers ahead of the harvest season.

The association also commended the establishment of Department of State Services camps in vulnerable communities, urging the authorities to provide sufficient funding and equipment and expand their operations where necessary.

Meanwhile, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement reported the killing of 65-year-old Dauda Shamaki during an attack on Nchiya community in Mangu LGA on Monday night.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joël Sunday, on behalf of its President, Jonathan Kyesmang Yusuf, the group disclosed that a security operative was also shot and injured around Aloghom community earlier that day.

According to the statement, the incidents occurred amid tensions over cattle allegedly straying into farmlands and destroying crops belonging to local farmers.

The group alleged that gunmen later invaded Nchiya community, where two men keeping watch at a local vigilance point were attacked with firearms and machetes.

“Tragically, the attack led to the untimely death of Mr. Dauda Shamaki, aged 65, one of the two men keeping vigil. The second vigilant narrowly escaped,” the statement said.

The movement further alleged that two of the attackers were dressed in uniforms belonging to security operatives, calling for an investigation to establish their identities and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It stated that there was no concrete evidence linking security personnel to the attack but maintained that the presence of individuals in uniform among the assailants raised suspicions that warranted a thorough investigation.

The group called on the Plateau State Government and relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.

Both organisations urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to security agencies and refrain from reprisals or spreading unverified information.
