President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday received the President of Madagascar, Colonel Michael Randrianirina, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Randrianirina was hosted by the Nigerian leader during a courtesy visit to the capital as part of his official engagements in the country.

The Madagascan leader, a military officer who assumed office in October 2025, was sworn in following a military takeover that resulted in the removal of former President Andry Rajoelina.

Randrianirina had led the CAPSAT military unit that mutinied and later aligned with anti-government protesters, culminating in a power shift that saw the former president impeached for alleged desertion of duty.

His visit to Nigeria marks one of his early diplomatic outings since assuming office, with discussions at the Villa expected to focus on bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

Further details of the closed-door meeting were not immediately disclosed.
