KIDNAPPERS INVADE KUBWA COMMUNITY, KILL ONE RESIDENT, ABDUCT ANOTHER IN FCT

Suspected kidnappers have attacked a residential area near the Quarry axis of Arab Road in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), killing one resident and abducting another during a late-night raid.
The attack, which occurred between 11pm on Saturday and midnight on Sunday, also left the community in shock as residents reported sustained gunfire during the invasion.
A community source and secretary of the area, identified simply as Dairo, said the assailants were heard exchanging gunfire with local security operatives before forcing their way into a victim’s home.
“We started hearing gunshots, and the house is towards the hill. From what I was told, the local security tried to repel them in a gun battle,” he said.
According to him, despite resistance from vigilantes, the attackers gained entry into the victim’s apartment, shot him, and abducted his younger brother.
“While they were doing that, they were able to enter the guy’s apartment. They shot him and took his younger brother away,” he added.
Dairo further disclosed that police officers arrived after the attackers had fled through nearby hills with the abducted victim.
“Not too long, I think the police came around past 12 to 1. Before they could arrive, the attackers had already left,” he said.
He noted that the injured victim was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries on Sunday.
According to residents, the incident marks the third successful kidnapping operation in the community in recent years, raising renewed concerns over insecurity in the area.
A resident recalled that previous attacks had resulted in abductions and killings, including a corps member kidnapped around 2021 or 2022, during which another resident was reportedly killed.
Another abduction reportedly occurred last year, with the victim released only after ransom was paid.
Residents said they had recently strengthened local vigilance groups, including vigilantes and hunters, but called for increased government intervention.
“We are appealing to the government to establish a police presence or increase patrols in the area. That will help deter these attackers,” Dairo said.
Efforts to reach the FCT Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful as of press time.
