TINUBU SPENT OVER N2BN ON OBAMA-LINKED CONSULTANTS SAYS BABACHIR LAWAL

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu personally financed former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s vice-presidential campaign during the 2015 general election and spent more than ₦2 billion to hire political consultants linked to former United States President Barack Obama.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV released on Saturday, Lawal recounted Tinubu’s role in the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign that led to the election of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Lawal, Tinubu mobilised significant funding for the APC campaign and separately financed Osinbajo’s campaign activities, which he said operated largely independently of Buhari’s main campaign.

He explained that Osinbajo focused on engaging Christian communities and ethnic groups that were sceptical of Buhari’s candidacy, while Tinubu covered the costs of his travels and campaign operations.
Lawal also alleged that Tinubu recruited political consultants from the United States, whom he described as associates of former President Barack Obama, to strengthen the APC’s campaign strategy.
He claimed the consultants played a key role in transforming the campaign and that Tinubu paid them more than ₦2 billion, converted into dollars.
The former SGF further alleged that Tinubu personally funded major campaign expenses rather than relying on the APC’s central campaign funds.
Lawal maintained that he witnessed these contributions firsthand, insisting that Tinubu consistently paid for major campaign activities from his personal resources.
