ZELENSKYY CLAIMS RUSSIA SEEKS 30,000 MORE NORTH KOREAN TROOP

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Russia is seeking an additional 30,000 troops and ballistic missile launchers from North Korea to support its war against Ukraine.
In a post on X late Saturday, Zelenskyy said preparations to receive the extra North Korean forces were underway in Russia’s Voronezh region, near the Ukrainian border.
North Korea previously deployed thousands of troops to assist Russia in repelling a Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kursk region in 2024. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Pyongyang has also supplied Moscow with weapons.
South Korean authorities estimate that about 2,000 North Korean troops have been killed in the conflict.
“Russia wants to receive another 30,000 troops from North Korea. Since June, preparations have been underway in Russia’s Voronezh region to receive them,” Zelenskyy wrote.

He also alleged that North Korea was preparing to send additional ballistic missile launchers to Russia, warning that the move posed a broader regional security threat.
“Russia is helping North Korea learn how to wage war, improve its weapons, and gain real combat experience in using them,” Zelenskyy said, adding that the cooperation threatens countries across Asia within range of North Korean missiles.
Russia and North Korea signed a military assistance treaty in 2024, with Pyongyang reaffirming its support for Moscow’s war effort during a visit to Russia this week by North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui.
According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA, Pyongyang reiterated its unwavering support for Russia’s domestic and foreign policies aimed at what it described as addressing the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine and defending Russia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ahead of Choe’s visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude for North Korea’s continued support in a video message.
In return for its military assistance, North Korea is reported to have received financial support, military technology, food supplies and energy resources from Russia to help ease the impact of international sanctions imposed over its nuclear programme.
