SENIOR ISWAP FINANCE OPERATIVE SURRENDERS TO TROOPS IN BORNO

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded another major success following the surrender of a senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), in what the military described as a significant blow to the terrorist group’s operations.
The latest development comes amid a growing wave of defections, with about 46 terrorists and their family members voluntarily surrendering to troops in recent days as sustained military offensives continue to weaken terrorist strongholds across the North-East.
According to the military, the suspect surrendered to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route.
The military said the surrender followed a series of coordinated land and air operations carried out by Operation HADIN KAI against terrorist enclaves in the region.
Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, where he reportedly managed the group’s finances and logistics. He surrendered alongside two male children.
Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one motorcycle and ₦40,000 in cash.
The suspect is currently undergoing profiling and interrogation to provide intelligence that could support ongoing military operations and help locate other terrorist elements.
The military described the surrender as another setback for ISWAP, saying it reflects the continued weakening of the group’s command structure, operational capability and support network under sustained military pressure.
It added that the increasing number of terrorist surrenders indicates growing disillusionment within the group’s ranks and an accelerating trend of defections.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security across the North-East and urged remaining terrorists to embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives by surrendering. The military also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
