UPDATE: FIRE RAZES TWO BUILDINGS IN KANO

The Kano State Fire Service has contained two separate fire outbreaks at an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, and a residential building in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The incidents occurred on Monday at about 1:17 p.m. and 6:19 p.m., respectively, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi.
The first fire was reported by a caller identified as Michael, who alerted the Emergency Response Unit to the outbreak at the Access Bank branch in Dawanau.
Firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station responded to the distress call and found a one-storey bank building measuring approximately 100 by 80 feet on fire.
The statement said the blaze affected a Mikano generator, which was completely engulfed, while an electrical transformer was also slightly damaged.
Firefighters successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other sections of the bank building.
The cause of the incident, however, remains under investigation.
The second fire was reported at about 6:19 p.m. at a residential building in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Following a distress call from a resident identified as Ahmad Mainama, firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station were deployed to the scene.
The responding team found a ground-floor residential building measuring about 40 by 30 feet engulfed in flames, with two bedrooms, a parlour and a kitchen affected.
The fire was eventually brought under control through the use of one jet from Commando 3, Sharada Fire Truck, supported by two additional jets from nearby factories.
The cause of the second outbreak is also being investigated.
Reacting to the incidents, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt basic fire-prevention measures.
He advised households to install functional fire extinguishers and ensure that appropriate fire-safety precautions are observed at all times.
Anas also urged residents to promptly report fire outbreaks to the fire service to enable emergency responders to act quickly and minimise the loss of lives and property.
