Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, when a large group of terrorists launched an assault aimed at overrunning the troops’ position.
The troops responded with heavy and coordinated firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw after suffering significant casualties.
During the encounter, several terrorists were neutralised, while troops recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from the operational area.
A subsequent review of surveillance footage also confirmed that the retreating terrorists evacuated several casualties from the scene. The recovered items and footage are currently undergoing further operational assessment.
A few soldiers sustained injuries during the confrontation after part of the defensive position was temporarily breached. Some combat equipment and vehicles were also damaged by Rocket-Propelled Grenade fire.
The injured personnel were immediately airlifted and are said to be in stable condition while receiving medical treatment.
Following the attack, troops have maintained a strong presence in and around the FOB and adjoining communities to dominate the area, monitor developments and prevent any further attempt by the terrorists to re-engage.
Residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities have been urged to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities. Members of the public were also encouraged to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security agency or call 07084988859 to support intelligence gathering.
The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI said troops remained on high alert as exploitation of the operational area and further assessment of the terrorists’ casualties and activities continued.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on ISWAP terrorists until lasting peace and stability are restored across the North-East.
