A deeply emotional tribute has been shared in the funeral pamphlet of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, as his wife, Anwuli Ekubo-Okwareke, reflected on love, grief, faith and the personal memories they shared before his passing.
The tribute, made available via Colors NG on Instagram during the funeral ceremonies held in Abia State from June 17 to June 18, described the late actor as her “sunshine” and “answered prayer,” while recalling how their relationship evolved through years of shared experiences, family bonds and spiritual connection.
She wrote that a childhood song they both shared — “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine” — took on a deeper meaning in their relationship, becoming a personal expression of their bond.
According to her, Ekubo was not only a husband but also a pillar of strength during one of her most painful seasons, especially after the death of her mother.
“When my mother passed a year ago, you were my anchor. You held me together during a season where everything felt heavy,” she wrote.
She admitted that coping with his absence remains difficult, saying she often finds herself reaching out for him in moments of habit before reality sets in.
The tribute also highlighted the intimate bond they shared, including private names and affectionate expressions such as “Pookie,” “Pookstar,” “Asa Ikuku,” and “Nwa,” which she said formed a “language of love” unique to them.
She also described how Ekubo’s affection was often shown in small, thoughtful gestures, including handwritten notes he would leave around their home, which she said she still treasures deeply.
“Our marriage was in so many ways a faith journey,” she wrote, noting that prayer and shared belief in God formed the foundation of their relationship.
She added that his devotion to faith strengthened her own spiritual walk.

Reflecting on his passing, she said his death was a profound loss not only to her but to many who knew him, but added that she finds comfort in her belief that he is at peace.
“But grief is not the end of your story,” she wrote. “I know Heaven welcomed you.”
She concluded by describing her marriage to him as the greatest honour of her life, saying she will always remember him as her “sunshine” and “favourite human being.”
Alexx Ekubo, a former Mr Nigeria runner-up and popular Nollywood actor, passed away on May 11, 2026, in Lagos following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer. He was buried in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State, in June 2026.
