Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has sparked widespread reactions on social media after joining fellow entertainers at a pro-President Bola Tinubu solidarity rally in Abuja.

The event, organised by the Re-elect Tinubu For Inclusive Nigeria (RTIFN) movement under the theme “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria,” came shortly after a medical outreach programme that offered free healthcare services and medications to hundreds of residents, particularly low-income earners.

Orji, who serves as the movement’s Deputy Director-General, used the occasion to encourage Nigerians to back President Tinubu’s reform agenda as political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum.

The rally took place against the backdrop of growing concerns over insecurity and economic hardship, with reports of kidnappings in parts of Oyo and Borno states, as well as rising inflation and the increasing cost of living.

However, online attention soon shifted from the rally’s message to Orji’s physical appearance. Videos and photos from the march circulated widely on social media, showing the actor walking slowly, prompting a flood of comments and debates among users.

Many critics questioned the decision of some Nollywood stars to publicly endorse the administration amid ongoing economic challenges facing many Nigerians. Others accused the celebrities of seeking political relevance rather than focusing on pressing national issues such as inflation, insecurity and unemployment.

Despite the criticism, some social media users defended the actors, arguing that public figures have the right to support any political cause or candidate without facing personal attacks.

The mixed reactions underscore the sharp divisions in public opinion surrounding Tinubu’s administration. While supporters cite infrastructure development, economic reforms and security initiatives as signs of progress, critics maintain that many citizens have yet to experience meaningful improvements in their daily lives.

The controversy has also highlighted the growing influence of celebrities in Nigeria’s political space, where endorsements and political activism often generate intense public debate alongside discussions about government policies.
