Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have released 416 residents abducted from Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Confirming the development to the media on Sunday, Samaila Kaigama, President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), said the victims regained their freedom on Saturday.

Kaigama noted that the captives had spent months in captivity following their abduction by the insurgents.

Earlier reports on April 10 indicated that BOSYA had maintained communication with the abductors and acted as an intermediary between the terrorist group and the affected victims after the insurgents publicly displayed the abductees.

Speaking on the development, Samaila Kaigama said all 416 women and children abducted from Ngoshe had regained their freedom.

“BOSYA has secured the release of all the 416 women and children from Ngoshe. They were released on June 6,” he said.

Kaigama expressed gratitude over the outcome, stating that sustained advocacy, persistent appeals, and prolonged engagements contributed to the successful release of the captives.

He also urged the Federal Government, the Borno State Government, and relevant local authorities to conduct thorough screening and provide necessary support for the released victims.

Attempts to obtain comments from Usman Tar were unsuccessful, as calls made to his phone were not answered as of the time of filing this report.

The release comes months after insurgents reportedly attacked a military base in Ngoshe on March 4, setting operational vehicles ablaze, overrunning security personnel, killing an unspecified number of people, and abducting several residents.
